After Us

We’re not eternal, unfortunately. And Zaha Hadid has suddenly left us too, but above all she leaves her studio in the hands of others: we are entering a new phase for architecture of international caliber, in which – similarly to what has been happening for decades in the fashion world – we are witnessing a polarization between single-owner, traditionally run tailoring ateliers and multinational brands capable of going well beyond the physical life of their founders.

It is a new season for architecture, for which traditional criticism is still unprepared, and for which new criteria of evaluation and opinion will be needed. Will Patrik Schumacher be able to take on such a heavy inheritance and run the studio seamlessly? We wrote about it with Davide Tommaso Ferrando in a four-handed essay published in the issue #0 of “Backoffice”, which will be spread in Venice on the occasion of the vernissage of the XV Biennale of Architecture, and the opening of the Unfolding Pavillion curated by Davide himself in the splendid Casa Alle Zattere by Ignazio Gardella, from 26th to 31st May 2016.
For those in the area, see you there.
