Spacelab+Arup’s “Shining star” is in the podium

It’s official: our “Shining star” — a project we developed in team with Arup Italia and Arup International — awarded the third place in the international design competition for a new Primary School and Kindergarten complex in Ravenna, Italy.

Here’s the verdict of the jury:

The project is characterized by a careful study of the individual functional cores composing the school plexus and by an innovative approach aimed at a strong openness towards the neighborhood through the introduction of green wedges which deeply extend to the central Piazza, the true heart of the complex.

The organization of the individual functions is well planned and favours, through deep space flexibility, both more intimate moments within each branch and opportunities for socialization among the sections connecting common spaces together, all facing the central, sky-open Piazza in a unique and well conceived solution.
The project matches well tested structural and layering solutions with innovative details and devices aimed at energy saving and environmental wellness.
