Op Ed #2 | Cruz Garcia/Nathalie Frankowski (WAI Architecture Think Tank): Manifesto without Qualities

We, the sons and daughters of crises created by others declare that we won’t lay flat or roll over in this ideological war. We declare this era of idiosyncratic iconophilia dead. We open the path for a new architecture. An architecture beyond the impasse of now and yesterday. An Iconoclastic Architecture. We will move forward with a new set of values that respond to nothing in particular. No preservation, no newness, no historicism, no ‘post’ nothing. Like Art, Architecture reached its climax during modernism. Oh, Modernism! Oh, truly international, ambitiously abstract modernism.

Everything after Modernism it’s either an imitation that falls short, or a meaningless contradiction. We announce a new form of architecture. An architecture so advanced, so futuristic, so ambitious, so visionary that it wouldn’t have to deal with any of the problems of now and yesterday. We call for an architecture that wouldn’t respond to systems of geopolitical obsolescence. We announce the advent of an architecture of complete and exuberant indifference. We declare a world of Pavilions without Nations. We call for an universal architecture. We call for the advent of an architecture without architecture. We call for an Architecture without Qualities.
